and is relatively easy for members… just sell one, two or more tickets at $25

you in the next few weeks.
Deadline for the return of ticket stubs and money is Saturday, May 29.
The first of 12 weekly drawings will begin the following week with the big tickets drawn at the Membership

GIFT SHOP/ Books, cards, prints for
sale.
Be sure to check out all the books
on Fairview’s history and other items for sale at the Sturgeon House on your
next visit there.
Hey!! What’s happening at the Sturgeon
House? Why is a dumpster in the
parking lot?
Since early January two Society members (Richard Stachel and J. R.
Freeman) have been tearing out the walls and ceiling of the second floor –
excluding the office that was renovated many years ago. The purpose is to install insulation
in the walls, create a large open area and build shelving for much needed
storage. No plans have been made
to create a second exit to the second floor, so it will not be open to the
general public. Two other members
(Jim Bolla and Jim Getz) will be helping with the project as needed. No end date has been set, but the work
goes on most Saturday mornings.
Many thanks to Van-Fab for
the free use of the dumpster, although the Society will pay the dumping
charges. Also, many thanks
to Boy Scout Owen Hitt and friend who moved a large number of bricks from the
second floor to the basement as a community service project. To view the ongoing work,
updates/photos are posted regularly on our
website.

So what else is going
on? The Tuesday Quilters are
working on another beautiful quilt!
As you know the proceeds from this quilt go toward restoration of the
Sturgeon House and preservation of materials pertaining to the history of the
Fairview area. Tickets will go on sale at the Ice Cream Social. Stop by the house on a Tuesday morning
and see how lovely it is going to be.
AN OPPORTUNITY TO
SERVE!
Many thanks to new member Karen Brady for volunteering
to serve as the Society’s Vice President. She comes from the Philadelphia area
where she was active in a historical society there. Welcome, Karen and again, many
thanks. Other positions on the
board that still need a volunteer are Ways & Means Chairman, Hospitality
Chairman and Publicity Chairman.
Contact Barb McLaughlin, 474-2046, for further
details.
Memberships
and Dues
Over the years
there has been a great deal of confusion about when to renew memberships. The Society operates on the calendar
year. Because our programs pick
up again in the fall, some folks pay their dues in the fall months. Dues paid then are applied to the
upcoming year. (For example,
renew in September 2010 and your membership is good through December
2011.) Currently many of our
long-standing members have not renewed their membership. If you feel you have not renewed,
please call Barbara Wingerter, 774-7997, our Membership Chairman for further
information.
Thanks to our
memberships and fundraisers we are able to continue our operations and basic
obligations, such as Sturgeon House maintenance, utilities and overseeing the
Chapel in the cemetery. We continue to provide school and adult educational
programs, genealogy services, exhibits and care of collections. By supporting our mission, this
community realizes the significance of the history of Fairview and the
importance of protecting it for future generations.
